Directions: The numerous impoundments located on the north side of the road from James Campbell NWR to Turtle Bay Golf Course is commonly referred to Fumi Shrimp Ponds after the Shrimp Restaurants located along this section of road. Access to the ponds is achieved by parking in the back of the lot of the light blue Fumi’s Shrimp Shack. This location is 1.0 miles from the access road for James Campbell. After parking you will see the access road/trail that enters into the shrimp ponds. From there, a labyrinth of cut and overgrown roads and access trails give views of the numerous impoundments in the area. Although most of the ponds are usually dry, some still contain water and can be a great location for waterfowl and shorebirds. The list of possible species is very similar to James Campbell, but if enough time is available, it is recommend to visit both spots as this gives the best opportunity to find something unusual.
